My favorite read of 2015, The Boys in the Boat was reminiscent of a favorite of mine, Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken.

The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin OlympicsThe Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reading this gave me the feeling of actually sitting in the boat with the raw weather stinging my face, muscles and lungs burning, the intense desire to win and a strong sense of appreciation for the finely crafted vessel shared by fellow teammates. Though I’ve never been a boating person, this book generated a great enthusiasm for the sport and kindled an interest retained long after the final page.

If you enjoyed Hillenbrand’s Unbroken, you surely love this one.

My favorite read in 2015.
